By a magician for magicians. This CDROM started when I needed to add good magic clipart to my flyers so that the printed material would complement my performance. Beyond dated black- and-white cartoons, I could not find any. So, being a professional graphic designer, I created my own magic illustrations with the sophisticated computer art programs that I was familiar with. Seeing how useful these images were, I decided to expand the number and variety of images and make them available to others who cannot afford a professional artist. And so MagicClips was born.

MagicClips are useful for professional and amateur magicians, magic distributors and dealers, creators of magic apparatus, Gospel workers, graphic artists who need images to complement a 'magic' theme, and publication designers--anyone who can use electronic clipart with a magic theme.

MagicClips images are cleared for commercial use. The fine print of many clipart CD-ROMs stipulate that you must pay extra in licensing or royalty fees if you use their content for commercial purposes, such as for business use or for advertising. But MagicClips was created with commercial use in mind. You pay no hidden costs or royalties on top of the price of the CD-ROM. The only restriction is that you may not copy the CDROM images for resale as clipart, whether in their original form or altered, or combined with other images.

Ray Dream© Designer/Studio (AOL Keyword: KPT). 3D models were created in this fine, easy-to-use program. The original Ray Dream© files (.RD3, .RD4) are included so that you may create your own versions of these images in your own copy of Ray Dream Designer© or Ray Dream Studio©. Neither Ray Dream Designer© nor Ray Dream Studio© are included on the CDROM. Purchase your own copy of either 3D software program and your files on this CDROM can easily triple or quadruple in quantity as you enlarge them, change their colors and camera angle and lighting, animate them, and combine them in new ways!

Micrografx Picture Publisher©. This image-editing program let me composite my pictures and add effects. Check to see if your program can import TIFF images. If so, then you too can alter the images to suit your needs. Add or change the backgrounds, crop out unwanted areas, add your own messages, combine images for a unique effect, use your image editing program's filter for cool effects, and more!

Microsoft FrontPage 97 & 2000©. This web site-building program let me easily put my MagicClips site on the web without knowledge of the HTML language--fast! Included in MagicClips are many images in GIF and/or JPG format so you can populate your web site immediately with these images, without need of a conversion program of your own.

Kudo Image Browser©. The good folks at Imspace© took all my images and placed them into easy-to-access folders as thumbnail views when they created my CDROM. You open the file of the category you want (such as Backgrounds) and the available backgrounds are displayed. The same image is displayed repeatedly with its different file types and sizes. The image browser saves you and me the cost of printing up a manual, takes up less space on your bookshelf, and is more friendly on the environment.

Just a short note to thank you for your Magic Clips CD Rom received last week. What a great idea! I'm sure many magicians can use this clipart to enhance their presentations and I surely hope many WILL use this CD Rom. If you update or come up with new "MagicClips" let me know I would sure like to purchase them also. . . . I perform at a resaurant in ___________ 2 nights a week and perform numerous shows also. I am also a member of the Fellowship of Christian Magicians and was delighted to see gospel clip art on your software. I also teach a magic class here in _____________, for both adults and children and I will be using some of your graphics on my handouts. USER SUPPORT

Solutions to some problems you may encounter with the MagicClips CDROM.

For helpful instructions and numerous tips, please see the README file on the CDROM.

Having difficulty importing TIFF images in Print Shop©. Broderbund© Print Shop products generally support only 256 color format images. Therefore some of the Print Shop series cannot directly import MagicClips images because they are millions of colors. To import into Print Shop software, you must first convert them into 256 color images (such as .PCX) in another image editing program. Print Shop Ensemble 3© DOES work, however, with the Object Add, Import command without having to convert the images first. Placing images from the Kudo Image Browser© into own Windows 95© program. In Windows 95 you may drag and drop the image into those programs that support it, such as Microsoft Word©. Simply start your MagicClips CDROM and turn to the area in the catalog where the desired image appears. Then start the program where you want the image to be placed. Resize the program border so that the image in the browser and your program are both visible. Point at the image with your cursor, hold down the left mouse button, and drag the cursor to the program window. Let go of the button when the cursor changes shape (such as into a square), either within the document window, or in the title bar at the top. Wait a moment while the file copies, and then you will see it appear in your program.

Viewing the images in Kudo Image Browser. After you have installed the browser, you may access the image folders simply by clicking on Win95's Start button, sliding the cursor to Programs, then to S. Husting's Magic Clips, then click on the category you are looking for. If you wish to view another category without closing the browser, click on File, then Open, then go to the drive of your CDROM. The browser folders are labeled with a .KDB extension. Double-click on any file with that extension and it will display.

Accessing the images from within own Windows 95 graphics program. Many Windows© programs are drag-and-drop compatible. If yours is, then insert the MagicClips CD and go to the image of your choice. Start your Windows program and resize the screen to reveal the Kudo image browser image. Click on the image with the left mouse button, hold down, then drag the image to your other program. When the cursor changes into a square (either in the document window or when over the title bar), then let go. The time you will have to wait for the computer to transfer the image will depend on the image size, CDROM drive, and computer speed.

Accessing Ray Dream 3D images from the MagicClips CDROM. Insert the MagciClips CDROM in your CD drive. Open your Ray Dream program. Click on File, then Open, then go to your CD drive. You will find the 3D models under Images/3dfiles and Headings/3dfiles with .RD3 or .RD4 extensions. If your Ray Dream© version is 5.0 or higher, then check that the File Types section of the Open dialog box has these .RD3 or .RD4 file types displaying. (Click the down arrow, click on its scroll bar until you see the extensions displayed. Click on it.) Then you should be able to find the files under Images/3dfiles and Headings/3dfiles. The other categories do not have 3D files listed under them because they are already composed of files in Images/3dfiles. Further notes: If you use the Headings/3dfiles, you will likely find your font different from that used in the illustrations because Ray Dream does not save the font files with its own files. In some cases you may find models without surface textures or images.

The same image file seems to be repeated too many times. The files are in different sizes. Originally, the different file's versions were placed in different folders. When they were added to the browser for the CDROM, though, they were all lumped together. Look at the number accompanying the image in the browser and you will find large numbers and smaller numbers. These indicate whether they are high resolution for commercial printing, or low resolution for home printer printing, depending on the image.
